using livestock data to manage production costs

Tighter margins and rising expectations encourage farmers to consider economic performance, animal welfare and sustainability together. Connected equipment turns observations into information that can support practical decisions.

Understand the cost pressures

Feed ingredients, energy and labour all affect production costs. Monitoring technical and economic performance helps identify where changes may be useful.

Useful individual data

Depending on the equipment installed, information may include individual feed consumption, calf growth, milk production and milking patterns, heat-related activity and behavioural changes.

Farmers can use these indicators to adjust rations, investigate losses or unusual results, refine care routines and organise work.

Examples of connected tools

Automatic calf feeders record feeding and help manage distribution. Animal monitoring sensors highlight changes in activity or behaviour that require investigation. The original article also refers to alerts associated with fever; the functions measured depend on the sensor fitted.

Pig Performance Testing records individual pig weight and feed intake to calculate performance indicators such as feed conversion. The current pig range distributed by AGYE is presented in the Agrisys section.

Interpreting financial benefits

The archived French article mentions examples of 10–20% lower feed losses and milk performance improvements of up to 15%, alongside possible reductions in neonatal losses and veterinary interventions. It does not identify the studies behind those figures. They are historical claims from that article, not guaranteed results for an installation.

The value of data depends on the starting situation, the equipment, the response to alerts and daily management. Discuss your own objectives and constraints with AGYE to assess a realistic project.
